Products

I make things you can buy.

Alongside client work, I design and manufacture my own products: small-batch electronics, built and shipped from my workshop. Every one of them is available from the Hortus.dev shop.

The lineup

Designed, built, and shipped in-house.

  • Four pin badges made in the workshop: a Christmas tree, a ghost, a festive badge, and the social battery badge.

    Interactive pin badges

Wearable electronics with personality. The Social Battery badge shows how much socialising you have left, and seasonal designs like the Christmas Mood badge light up on demand. Each runs on a single coin cell.

  • A jar of warm, fire-coloured LEDs glowing on a hearth, driven by the Fire String board.

    Fire String

A jar of firelight without the fire. Real-time flame simulation drives an LED string with colours derived from black-body radiation curves, and a browser-based configurator lets you tune it to taste.

  • The Tiny2048 board showing a game of 2048 in colourful tiles.

    Tiny2048

A playable game of 2048 on a compact custom board. A grid of addressable RGB LEDs is the display, and tilting the board is the controller. It doubles as a neat little ESP32 dev board.

  • The watering monitor's moisture probe in a potted houseplant.

    Houseplant watering monitor

Capacitive soil moisture sensing that tells you when a plant actually needs water, designed to run for over a year on a single battery.

Prices and stock live on the shop. Some designs are seasonal, so they come and go through the year.

Why I make them

Small products, real manufacturing.

The shop is a labour of love: things I wanted to exist, made in small batches because making them is the fun part. But every product here still went from schematic to PCB layout to firmware, then through assembly, test, packaging, and fulfilment in my own workshop.

Shipping my own products end to end is why I understand manufacturability, yield, and unit cost from direct experience rather than theory, and it's the same discipline I bring to client work.
